History

Duk County Youth Association (DCYA) is among the youth formations that took root early in South Sudan. It was built by young people from Duk County who had gathered in Juba and wanted a structured way to support one another, organise activities, and speak together on issues that mattered to their communities.

Since Aleer Kon Deng led the inaugural group in 2006, a succession of chairs has overseen everything from finances and membership to peace-building and partnerships. Through every term, the central mission has remained constant: keeping youth united across their differences and grounded in a culture of accountability. The timeline below pays tribute to nearly two decades of leadership, starting with the current term and moving back through our history.

The DCYA continues to remain open to members, diaspora friends and partners to be part of its story. This includes participating in DCYA activities, providing mentorship to younger members, and to spread reliable news about Duk County. By doing so, the association maintains the connection between current leadership and the 2006 founders who first championed the vision and believed that youth can create lasting impact.
